Federal AI Workforce Intelligence Platform

I led UX design for an AI-powered federal workforce intelligence platform, creating transparent AI interfaces for government agencies. Over six months, I designed new patterns for trustworthy AI adoption that transformed weeks-long departmental analysis into tasks managers could complete in a single afternoon.

The Challenge

Federal agencies struggled with critical workforce planning challenges that required weeks of manual analysis across disconnected systems.

01

Weeks of Manual Analysis

Entire departments spending weeks on workforce planning tasks that should be data-driven decisions, creating bottlenecks

02

Disconnected Workforce Data

Cybersecurity skills, federal job codes, and workforce analytics scattered across systems with no unified view for decision-making

03

No AI Transparency

Existing tools provided recommendations without explanations, making validation impossible for critical hiring decisions

04

Inefficient Decision-Making

No way to quickly validate workforce recommendations or compare competitive positioning across agencies

This forced agencies to rely on manual analysis, taking entire departments weeks to complete workforce planning that should be straightforward decisions.

Solution Overview

My focus was on designing transparent AI experiences and interactive data visualization tools that gave federal decision-makers clarity and confidence in their workforce planning.

Interactive Skills Network

To highlight the interconnectedness of federal work roles and KSATs, I designed an interactive force-directed network using React and D3.js. Users could search for roles like "Security Architect" to see related competencies, explore connected roles, and zoom or filter to identify skill gaps and training opportunities across agencies.

  • Real-time skills mapping exploration
  • Dynamic filtering and search
  • Multi-level zoom for analysis

Design System Impact

I extended existing design systems with federal-specific components and accessibility patterns, cutting development time by 30% and enabling us to deliver prototypes within one month. I also created reusable AI interface patterns that could be scaled across multiple federal applications.

Outcome & Impact

Government stakeholders provided positive feedback during platform demonstrations, noting the breakthrough approach to AI transparency and the intuitive nature of the interactive data visualizations.
